Coastline Community College E-Mail FAQ

1) What is E-Mail?

A) An ultra-condensed explanation of e-mail: a sender (person) uses a mail agent (program) to compose a message, which contains the e-mail addresses of several recipients. The agent passes the message to a transport service for delivery to the mailboxes of the recipients, who each use their own agents to read the e-mail. Click here for more details

E-Mail Account MaintenanceGo to Top of FAQ

Every e-mail user must maintain their account - specifically, storage of e-mail’s on the CCC E-Mail Server. Each user has 15,000,000 characters of storage, 50% more than was allowed on the old e-mail system. It is the responsibility of each user to “clean out” their e-mail folders. Deleting an e-mail is only ½ of the process of removing it from your folders. Most deleted e-mail’s go to the trash folder and remain there until you “empty” your trash. So, the second half of the deletion process is emptying your trash.  Also, if you have you e-mail client (Netscape Messenger) setup to keep a copy of your “sent” mail, then you need to periodically “clean out” your sent folder by deleting the sent messages and then emptying your trash. Maintaining your e-mail account should be a weekly (every Monday morning or Friday afternoon) process. Please help us keep our e-mail system clean and lean so that everyone can benefit from a well-maintained system.

We hope this assists you in some of the basic operations and procedures of the CCC e-mail system.
